My enchantment with flowers began at a young age, mesmerized by their colours and shapes, alway be willed by their beauty and diversity.
While walking home one afternoon l was looking for a present for my father, as Father's day was the following day. I walked past a small boutique flower shop in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy called, "Wild Flowers", the colours and smells drew me in like a moth to a flame. l brought my father, pink tulips and white daisies in brown paper and raffa. I was quite pleased with myself and hoped he would like them.
The following week l asked for some work experience and on the third day l was offered a part time job. I continued with the business for 6 years. The creative, artistic woman took me in, under their wings, and l loved my job and being part of the special power that flowers exude. I continued to work for many florists over many years, acquiring knowledge all the way. By the time l finished high school l had been working as a florist for over 3 years and decided to go on and study Fine Art at R.M.I.T, while continuing to work as a florist.
After my studies finished l moved to Tasmania and opened my own business called FLORAqueen gondwana. I developed and grew the business for 5 years before l sold the thriving business to become a new mother. I started a new online business called UBeauty Pots and Plants. I propagated succulents and imported recycled garden wares which were not yet available in the Australian flower and garden market as yet. I launched these products at The International Flower and Garden Show and The Melbourne Living Sustainable Festival.
I dissolved the business to have my second son and studied Yoga, acquiring my teachers certificate l worked as a yoga instructor which suited my new family life. 18 years on l have now returned to my hometown Fitzroy North, to open FLORAqueen.
I am so passionate about flowers and plants and l'm so excited to showcase all that l have learnt in over 25 years of being in the flower/plant business. l'm thrilled to be able to create a business which incorporates what is close to my heart, things that are important to me in this environment climate.
Local, sustainable, environment conscious are a few values which are important to both myself and this business. FLORAqueen aims to be mindful of these aspects when purchasing, creating and delivering our products.
Great pride is taken in acquiring the best products to offer our customers quality, ethical and beautiful handmade products. All aspects of business will take these values into consideration. From choosing local products handmade, choosing local flowers and plants and even our chosen bank will reflect awareness and ethos of minimizing our carbon footprint.Best wishes,
